Everyone loves a little bit of Batman right? Thought so.
The trick is to come up with something a little bit out of the ordinary though, I mean Batman has proven through the years to be one of the most active licenses around.
Well today I scored big for you. Here is something that is just a little bit super-special.
How about the Batmobile Ride-On from Marx?
Produced between 1962 and 1964 this beauty is unlike anything you have ever seen before.
First of all this thing is just dripping with details. Check it out, it has a bright yellow wind shield, a hood scoop and even a steering wheel in the shape of the famous bat symbol. This wheel even makes a noise when you push down on it. The one you see here is missing the all important bat phone that should be attached to the hook located at the center of the wind shield. Oh well, no mind.
The view from the rear doesn’t disappoint either. Now you can see the nicely detailed instrument panel on the dash as well as the bright red fins, exhaust port and rocket pipes. What you don’t know is that the trunk actually opens too… sweeeeet!
The body of the ride-on is finished with some great looking decals, chromy hubcaps and even a functioning hand brake located infront of the rear fin.
One thing that struck me as soon as I saw this piece, other than how amazing it was and how bad I wanted it, was actually a question… how did a kid makes this baby go?
Simple, and here is what puts this piece in a league all by itself… it is self-powered.
Basically the kid sits on the seat and pushes it back 5-10 feet then applies the hand brake. After making a call back to the Batcave for some vital info, or telling mom they would just be five more minutes, release the brake and just like magic they were away. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC!
This car even had a selecter underneath to allow for a clicking sound or not… what did the designers forget here? Nothing! Well nothing except mail one to my childhood home in London with strict instructions to my mom that it was to be given to me when I turned 21. Alas that was not the case
A beauty like this, no surprise, will set you back a bob or two, and by a bob or two I mean at least $700 (once you factor in shipping). How do I know? Coz I’m smart like that… oh yes, and the fact that there is one on eBay right now - click here.
Readers should feel free to band together and buy this for me after all my birthday is in November and it is only350 days until Christmas! So what are you waiting for?
As a special treat for you I am including the original TV commercial for this toy. You will see that the example above is also missing its original bat cape. But given how flimsy it looks, and the fact that it is completely lame, I don’t think that is too much of a problem.
Whatever the case, I am certain practically any kid would have died to get their grubby paws on one of these at the time. Come to think of it, I think most kids and adults would still love to get one today.

Wow. Has to be near the top of the list of best Batman collectibles ever. The commercial was great too. I can’t believe the detail on the car. I especially like the Bat-Wheel. Excellent post!
Holy awesome detailing Batman! That puts my smurf car to shame!
