Today I was out and about doing… well you know… those kind of things you do when your out and about. Basically nothing much at all if truth be known. Anyway sometimes those are just the days when inspiration strikes, and strike it did.
I was in a local store that has a nice selection of all kinds of interesting things and I saw this.
A Lego minifig lantern… how cool is that? Ok, so it isn’t really a toy but really, so sweet. At about 9″ tall all you do is push his Lego-logo belly button and his body lights up like magic.
You may remember I have a love for things like this - click here to see why.
Such a neat design. I mean the figure itself is classic but I love how they added the whole extra dimension to it. Believe me I almost had to take it home with me. It was only the sudden burst of rationality that prevented me dropping the $20 asking price. A bargain for sure, I just don’t need one… bummer.
Once I got home I did a little detctive work and discovered that there were a bunch of other new Lego light products.
A torch, or for you Americans out there a flashlight, which also came in a greener (from the environmental standpoint anyway) human-powered crank version.
The simplicity of the design is so amazing, but at the same time I can just as easily see kids loving it purely from a play point of view - brilliant!
They made a few other pieces to round out the set.
A clever headlight version for use when your out camping or working under the car… or sumthin’ like that
The minifig can be removed from the headband and then clipped on to just about anything. They also sell this piece in a keychain version as well.
Last of all we have the all important Lego Brick Light.
This is obviously a whole new spin on the classic night light for those among us who need a little light in the wee hours to keep the monsters at bay.
I give Lego an A+ for licensing products like this. I know they are expanding the brand so as to make more money but you can see that they are sticking with products that seem to be of a the same high quality that we are used to. Congrats!
For those of you who have not seen them yet they made some pretty amazing CD players, alarm clocks, cameras and MP3 players last year that are well worth checking out.
See you again next time.

Ingenious idea by Lego. I never would have thought they could be used as a flashlight. My guess is that kids love it.
These are great…I’d consider getting the lantern for my bedside table…Think I’m a little too big for the headlight version.
My kids love to play with Legos. I will be checking back to your site often to see what the hot items for Christmas are this year.
