Who made the top 10?

Who made the top 10?

On Friday I posted our magic 250th post. Woooo. OK so it’s not that big of a deal but I decided I would use it as the basis for today’s post.

Instead of doing some boring recap montage I decided to do a variation on a boring recap montage… hopefully then not so boring. Let’s see then shall we.

This evening I was poking through the web stats for the blog, as I do most days, and I decided to see how the number of toynerds out there has grown since I began this blog. The answer is that it has… considerably. All I can say is that I am delighted. Not being satisfied there I then wondered what have been the most popular stories. Let me say that the results were quite surprising to me, so much so in fact that I thought I would share with you. So I now present to you my amazing ToyNerd Top 10 of ToyNerdiness.

Before you jump ahead it is essential that you carefully follow these directions. Once you have finished this paragraph click on the link below. You don’t need to watch the video in the new window that pops up you just need to have the song playing in the background as you read on. For anyone who grew up in Britain during the eighties you will know exactly why this song is so important… for the rest of you, well I’m sure with a little poking around you will be able to figure it out for yourself.

OK, here is the link - click here

Starting at number 10 with a post called I know who likes Star Wars a bit we have one of our early collector profiles where we get to check out Mat’s amazing stash.

See the rest of it for yourself by clicking here.

For Number 9 we have Da Bomb! which is a recent posting and features the amazing work of Tim Tsui from Hong Kong.

I love his stuff, click here and check it out.

At number 8 we see a toy that is very near the top of my most wanted list for sure. The post is called Fireball of a success and unfortunately until I have saved up a lot of pennies, and I mean A LOT! that is just not going happen.

I give you none other than Steve Zodiac’s Fireball XL5 playset from MPC, click here for a recap.

Climbing to number 7 is a piece that highlights the amazing art from of a particular favorite toy line of mine. Art of the titans is a retrospective of all the figures taken from the 1981 movie classic Clash of the Titans. Here we get to marvel at amazing toys like Pegasus and the Kraken, there is even one of Thallo our favorite exposition centurion.

Click here to see them all.

Number 6 brings us to an early post I did, in fact it was the second part in a three part series called The King is dead… long live the king. This story served as my tribute to the late great king of pop Michael Jackson who had just passed away.

mj7

There are way more toys related to MJ than you might ever imagine, click here for a look.

At number 5 is a review of some of the basic forms that we see used most frequently in the current designer toy explosion that has rocked the market over the past few years. Titled Art toys of course.

These are some of my favorite collectibles from the past decade. Fun toys, beautiful art… all wrapped into one convenient blob of vinyl. Sweet! Click here to take a look.

Before I move on I just wanted to check to see if the song is still playing… if not click repeat.

Now at number 4 is a post called A serial collector which is another profile of a toy collector I got to hang out with one afternoon. Thanks to Gein for sharing his extravaganza of toys from the eighties, a real trip down memory lane for a number of you I’m sure.

To see the rest of it click here.

And now we hit the final three. At number 3 we have a real landmark post for ToyNerd.com, it was the 200th as a matter of fact. Here we got to see a collection of customized Little People made by a my friend Bob. He finished his 200th to coincide with this post, ahhh the symmetry of it.

I made a contest out of this one. Gary was the one who correctly identified more characters than anyone else, how clever of him. See how well you can do, click here to see them.

Almost the top spot now at number 2 we have a story called Where the Wild Things are… and where they aren’t. This is all about some of the toys that have been made of the characters featured on the pages of my favorite kids’ book of all time. I then compare them to toys produced for the recent movie version… Boooooo!

Get to see me rant and rave all over again. Click here.

And now for the covetted number 1 spot. I will tell you that it holds this position by quite a commanding margin. I will also tell you that I am always amazed that it has had so many readers. Hey what can I say, it must be my great writing… [cricket]

Actually it is the bizarre nature of the toy itself that has everyone looking. In many ways the appeal is like those exhibits you see at state fairs where you pay a dollar to see the world’s largest pig or even a genuine preserved mermaid.

So without further ado, the number one most viewed toy here at ToyNerd.com…

Taken from the classic American TV show, All in the Family, we have the inimitable… the infamous… Joey Stivic doll.

This is a must see so click here and find out why it holds its position at the top of the chart.

Before I go I just wanted to put out a big THANK YOU to all of you readers out there. Also extra special thanks to the folks who leave me comments. I can tell you, it is the feedback that keeps me going.

Keep reading, thanks.
