Sometimes bigger just isn’t better.
As you know I have quite an appreciation for toys on the wee end of the scale. Dunnys, Superhero Squad, Kubricks, Smurfs, Heroclix, Minimates, you name it. If they are well done the small size just makes the toy exponentially cooler in my books. Unfortunately the ‘well done’ part of the equation often gets over looked by manufacturers and you end up with something pretty lame. Today I’m going to show you a line of figures that are both small, at round about 2″ tall, as well as tremendously well done. Yay!
Made by Fisher Price and part of their Imaginext line of toys. How cute is he? Just look at his perky little smile. Too adorable.
See, even the bad guys don’t seem quite so bad after all as you can see here with the Joker.
Two-face even comes packaged with a tooned-out coin for you to flip while you play with the figure.
As you can see from the Mr. Freeze here all of these figures have exagerated features with specially large hands and feet. This is a real multiplier for me on the cute-o-meter.
The Penguin here is my favorite of these characters taken from the DC Super Friends. I love his little avian companions as well as his pointy chin, pot belly and determined look. I just want to squeeze his little tummy.
As you can see these figures were exclusive to Target… well kinda. You could find them in other stores, just not packaged this way. A little lame… maybe but… This line has many many exclusives of this kind. Different accessories, vehicles or even multi packs of toys and exclusives like these popped up at several different retailers.
As you can see, this line extends way beyond characters solely from the DC universe. Fisher Price made literally dozens and dozens of figures from many different generic action genres. These include outer space, undersea and the land of the dinosaurs.
Robin, Boy Wonder, comes with a pretty stylin’ motorcycle. I’m not sure though if he could actually sit on it. Each figure has very rudimentary articulation allowing for the arms, legs and head to move, but I’m guessing that is plenty enough for the kids in the target age range of 3-8 years old.
The Riddler comes in a couple of variations. The one above we see him in his bowler hat.
In this ToysRUs exclusive we see the Riddler without his hat and with his hair slicked back. For those eagle-eyed ones of you out there you will also see he is a different shade of green as well as a smaller face mask. This one looks less like the Batman Animated version of this villain and more like Frank Gorshin from the Adam West era TV show. Of course he also comes with some kind of Riddlermobile, but that was obvious.
As with every other line of toys featuring Batman we find there are the inevitable variants of the hero himself. This line is no exception and I have seen at least six or seven different ones. Some are really cool like this one above, others are… well just plain stupid. You know, the fluorescent colored camouflage type, just silly that’s all. Color variants are not typically found individually packed like the ones featured at the begining of the post, instead they usually come packaged with a vehicle or playset.
On the subject of playsets, most of them are just whatever, the Joker’s Fun House on the other hand is super awesome. What a great looking design, I can see a young kid thinking that this was just the bee’s knees.
They have just started to branch out from the Batman characters. Superman was an obvious next choice. I love his smile, the cape and the micro cow lick in the front of his hair… all perfect. The star for sure though is his super companion Krypto the super hund. The way he is stood to attention slightly angled forward, so sweeet.
Another recent addition is Green Lantern that comes packaged with his jet. Notice you can see they even put a little ring on his little finger, I find that more than a little cool.
I can only imagine that the set is bound to get numerous additions and we could easily list off the usual suspects. Comment below and let me know which would be your choice for the next few additions. For me, I would love to see some ladies here, how about Wonder Woman (natch) and also Poison Ivy.
I guess we will have to wait and see exactly what Fisher Price have planned for us.

Great looking toys. To quote you, they are the “bee’s knees”. Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy would be great, but they need to do a Harley Quinn. It would fit in perfectly with the Joker playset, which I think looks amazingly cool. Plastic Man with a stretched body would also be a great choice.
These toys look great. Too bad they left out all the ladies. They should have Batgirl at least. After seeing the images on the back of the package you show I went hunting for more info. Great selection of vehicles & playsets! I really love the Batcave playset.
The imaginext line has soooo many choices. They have a bunch of Toy Story 3 stuff (including a flying pig spaceship for Buzz), dragons, dinosaurs, bigfoot (he’s huge! he’s remote controlled & he moves & talks!), ships, submarines, planes, rocketships, etc… What a great line that I never noticed before.
These guys solved the problem of no ladies by using ladies from another toy line:

I think that Joker playset would give me nightmares as a kid, and I wasn’t even particularly afraid of clowns. It’s something about the giant “ha’s” = very menacing.
I bought the Wonder Woman jet recently…but now I can’t find it
