Yesterday I was down in my basement rummaging around… for my Captain America cookie jar if you really must know, you know, just like any other normal person does on a Monday evening. Anyway as I opened up a few of the boxes I thought it might be in I stumbled across some treasures that I will be showing you soon. One of them was so great that it just could not wait and I have to post it right now.
Check this out.
Holy dog poopie, it’s a mummified canine!
OK, well not quite, it’s actually a little injured pup that has had his wounds bandaged. Ahhhhh.
This poor little pooch is really called Puffy and is the now infamous dog from the 1998, yes it really was that long ago, classic comedy There’s Something About Mary. I love that movie, tons of zany, slapstick fun. Starring Ben Stiller in one of his few movies where he was funny, as well as Cameron Diaz who will forever be remembered as the lady who needed hair gel.
The weird thing though is that as great as that movie was, who would have ever imagined they would make a toy from it? Not me that’s for sure. But low and behold they did… kind of.
This little guy was made by Soft Sales and is about 10″ long and 6.5″ tall, and just like you might expect for a bandaged and injured dog, he is far from cuddly. This plush toy is quite dense and certainly not something you’d want to snuggle with.
Here he is in the flesh, or should I say plaster, as it were. I think that the manufacturer did a commendable job replicating Puffy after his accidental nose dive out of a second story window… ouchie!
The reason I said that this was ‘kind of’ a toy is as follows… technically, and if we want to nit pick and split hairs a bit, this never really was released as a toy per se. In fact this was used as more of a promotional item. It was given away at Blockbuster video stores if you purchased the movie.
Whatever it is technically, I think it is super cool, I mean how bizarre is that? If you look around you will be able to get one for around $10 which is a deal for sure. Be careful to check that Puffy is not written on, I only say that because the tag on his collar says, “please autograph his cast” on the reverse. So given how compliant most folks are when it comes to stuff like this you can be sure to find varing degrees on grafitti on your pup.

Sometimes movie promotional items make for the best toys (or collectibles). Yoyr life size Mike from Monsters Inc. is proof of that. Puffy is definitely a unique item also.
Bizarre, but I believe I remember seeing these at the time.
Ha ha! I love it!
