As if Toy Story wasn’t cute enough already

As if Toy Story wasn’t cute enough already

Hey folks, if you didn’t already know, Toy Story 3 is out and in movie theaters right now!… Yes, I am stating the obvious here.

Ok, how about this… there are new toys out for the Toy Story movie!… Even more of the obvious huh.

This is news for sure… most of the new Toy Story toys are pretty BORING!

WHAT!!

Yes, I hate to say it, but alas it is true. It must be said that of most of the modern franchises that are out there that produce toys, this one has to be one of the most repetative. I said, of the modern franchises that are out there that produce toys, this one has to be one of the most repetative… I repeated myself once and you are already annoyed. Well for this reason alone Toy Story is bound to make you bristle just a wee bit.

Most of the product that is out there, I’m guessing around 90%, hit the shelves before for one or both of the previous movies. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, etc have been remade to death. I can’t really blame the manufacturer at all given that it is a movie mostly for little kids and these kids just want a toy of their favorite character. Talking Woody dolls, Buzz Lightyear action figures of varying sizes, we’ve seen them all. Yes… they may change an accessory here or there, they might even change the sound chip so the toy has something new to say, but for intents and purposes that’s about it.

It is for this reason that I like it when I see something fresh, and today I have something extra cool for you.

Made by Mattel this is one of the cutest little plush characters you might ever see.

At about 8″ tall these little guys are just chock-a-block with personality.

With very bold graphic designs and exagerated body shapes these plush figures have an almost super-deformed feel to them. And I think it is this, more than anything else, that transforms these pieces from seen it before to almost too adorable for words. I mean just look at this pudgy little Buzz Lightyear… I just want to pinch his little face.

Making them even more interesting is that each one has a sound chip inside. Just squeeze their mid-riff and they randomly say one of their four or five sound bites taken from the movie. These range from Jessie’s exclamation of, “Sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln” (my personal fave) to the Alien’s fan favorite, “the claw is my master” and Buzz’s, “to infinity… and beyond”.

Overall very pleasing little toys. I will say that they do have just slightly more playability than a standard beanie baby toy, i.e. next to none, but I am sure kids will love them for an hour or two before they figure out they can bug the crap out of mom and dad with them. Hey, even if they end up just sat on a shelf oh well… these rule.

Originally they were priced at $10 each which may not sound like a lot, but once you look at four of them to make the set I think $40 is a little steep. I managed to pick these up on clearance for just $5 a pop which is much more reasonable. So hurry to stores now if you want to snag these bargains for yourself.

If you wondered exactly what they sound like, for your listening pleasure…
